Documents

You may need these documents for handling legal and accounting issues:

• Will
• Birth Certificate
• Insurance Policies
• If a veteran—then discharge papers
• Death Certificate
• Social Security Card
• Marriage Certificate
• Birth Certificate of each child, if applicable

• Deeds and Titles to Property

Death Certificate

• You will need a death certificate. (Copies are needed for each occasion where there will be a transfer of property such as land, home, vehicles, stocks, bonds, each bank, each company holding a life insurance policy and any other assets.) Additional copies available from your city hall.
• You will need the following information about the deceased to fill out the forms (probably at the funeral home): Name, social security number, address, city, state, county, country, birth date, birth place, (if in services, the armed forces serial number), years in the state, occupation, name and address of employer, education level attained, father's name (including middle initial), mother's name (including maiden name).
